Coming soon to families in Peel
On February 19, 2016 the province announced the formation of the Ontario Early Years Child and Family Centres (OEYCFCs). These centres will bring a number of existing programs and services for young children and families under one umbrella. Child and family programs will be integrated under a common mandate, a shared identity and governance structure. Together, they will provide a seamless system of high quality core services and programs that will be accessible across Ontario and convenient for families to use.
Local needs and priorities will be woven into the mix of services available at Peel OEYCFCs, through local planning and management of the system and consultation with stakeholders and service providers. Parents, organizations focused on children and families, public health, school boards, specialized community service agencies, advocates, and others will be invited to contribute their ideas, priorities and preferences as part of the planning and stakeholder engagement process.
Success By 6 Peel and the Region of Peel are working with other early years partners across Peel to bring these centres to life in our communities
Peel’s early years journey
In the last decade, Ontario’s government has invested in research, programs and services to create a system that is high quality, seamless, and accessible for children and families. Some of these initiatives include:
- Full-day kindergarten
- A provincial model for early learning
- Ontario Early Years Policy Framework
- Modernizing Child Care
- New regulations for child care providers
Locally, the Region of Peel and Success by 6 Peel have guided important conversations about these initiatives involving many local groups focused on serving children and families. Together, as a community, we have worked to introduce these provincial initiatives in ways that best meet our unique local needs.
